Feh.
Having a migraine yesterday has put me in a bit of a pout today. I'm going to need to do some work today, and the bright clear sunlight seems sinister.
I still feel pretty distracted by my tech tools stuff, which i take to be similar to loosing myself in genealogy: i'm in a recovery mode for the week's intensity. I'm done with the switch to chrome and shrook, replacing safari. Shrook is more efficient than the safari RSS reader i think, and i did have enough time on my work machine to see that shrook synchronized with all the organization i'd done on my personal laptop. Chrome synchronizes bookmarks (one of the main reasons i stuck with Safari).
I'd used Fink ages ago to get gnu software on my mac. I feel a bit guilty when i reflect on how few things i depend on in that port, after the previous decade's dependency on the unix command line. I moved to Textwrangler from emacs, to Mail.app from the emacs mail client, to a variety of calendaring tools from cal. One thing that i never managed to get running though was grace, the descendant of the plotting program i used with gawk (the gnu version of a data parsing scripting language) and all my dissertation analysis. Excel is not a satisfactory replacement but i've made do.
When i realized my work machine did not have gawk (and that embarrassingly took months), i asked a colleague what the best porting system is now. He finds MacPorts+Porticus to be up to date. This morning i'm wiping out my fink installation, building gawk and xmgrace. I'm also taking the time to clean up old executables.
