Fantasy Christmas

I got an announcement in my email today that http://www.modrobotics.com/ was taking early orders and i promptly went to go order, without reading the fine print. Since it was all on my phone, it was almost all fine print, but i was able to read the price. Yikes! $300! But it turns out the $300 is for the first 100 beta versions of the "toy:" twenty robotic modules of three types, sensors, logic modules, and action modules.

It reminded me of another "toy" that looks incredibly cool: http://www.makerbeam.com/makerbeam.html

I hope that the cubelets go into production and drop in price. I can't justify buying them for myself alone, especially since i have not played with my legos that i got last Yule. But i can justify buying them for the nephices! (My new term for nephews and nieces -- real term welcomed).

In cheaper wishing, there's the new release of a historic 1906 Market St Film -- http://streetcar.org/store/trip-dvd.html $13 -- reported on by 60 Minutes (which apparently airs whole segments supported by advertising) http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/10/14/60minutes/main6958102.shtml .

When i think for just a moment i realize i don't really want a copy: some point i'll get a chance to watch it.

Going to Niles to watch silent films is on a wish list of another sort.
