It used to be (or maybe I just read it in books) that the ability to code switch appropriately was a quality of a skilled, intelligent person. Then the 1960s' emphasis on "be who you are all the time" made it a less valued attribute; it was taught less and sometimes even considered the sign of a bad person, a deceptive and self-centered person.
I like having lots of modes to act. I like making people comfortable with appropriate code switching, and doing so improves communication and knowledge.
