I've been in "purging" mode for the last year or so myself. Guess it's that "in the first half of life you're about acquiring things; in the second half, getting rid of what you don't love or need (physically or emotionally.) It feels good but seems like there's never enough hours in the day to do it all (and I work only slightly over half time these days!)
Regarding sweets, I just found a lower-sugar candy bar series, from "Amy's" brand: "Andy's Dandy Candy." Yummy & chocolatey, and only 8 g or so of sugar per half-size part. Your local health store might carry them, or be convinced to order some.
