Pileated Woodpecker

I saw a Pileated Woodpecker yesterday! The photo at iNaturalist was the best moment in the grainy video i captured. My, they are huge. And they hop down the tree backwards -- somehow it seems so odd.

For some reason, i have doubted Christine when she says she sees them, i suppose because i hadn't seen them. I confess now, because i feel guilty about it now.

I love Pileated Woodpeckers! they are a bit east of here, usually, but they are a great treat to see when I am in east Texas.

I have seen them, but never able to capture a photo! They tend to be up high in the trees.

I now understand a little more why someone would be passionate about staking out a swamp for a glimpse of an Ivory Billed Woodpecker.

This one actually hopped all the way down the tree. Then there was a kerfluffle i couldn't see. I might pursue a little more next time i hear them.

After knowing them only through bird cards I was totally stunned actually to see my first. So prehistoric-looking.
