Made an absolute disaster of a loaf of soda bread. Don't ask, not worth recounting the horror, but one part of the failure involved mistakenly adding a cup of melted butter. I ate some and was both attracted and repulsed. I think one of the flours was stale. I dumped the loaf in the compost.

I also made a "Mexican sweet corn cake" which actually called for a cup of melted butter. That seems to have turned out better, but i'm turned off and won't have any. I had a headache before the disaster loaf, so it may not just be the disaster.

The fig tree is producing SO MANY FIGS. Figs were involved with the disaster loaf. I don't know what i am going to do about the figs, particularly the ones so hard to reach. Ants and wasps are going to have fun feasting. Is this bad? I suppose i should get a jar out for fruit vinegar making.

I don't know who killed the rabbit, but i saw Carrie chewing on what i thought was an old chew bone outside. I had the new chew bone and went over to suggest she would enjoy it better, but no, she had the rabbit heading down her throat, python style. Last i saw were the two hind feet. Internet says we should keep an eye out for certain unpleasant results. She seemed to east her dinner with no issue, although Christine did reduce it.

Tuesday morning: i feel a little better. I spent time with a colleague at work who was a little triggered about new requirements. I hope she felt i was on her side, but i fear i am ... oh, Gandalf arriving at Rohan, what was he called? Stormcrow and Láthspell -- nothing but complexity and more work and a blizzard of new concepts and ideas.

I'm betting that your listening to your new colleague was helpful in itself. And, granted, I'm the Gandalf Stormcrow type, but I think that "Yes, here are the problems, and here's how we wrangle them from here" is actually more helpful/comofrting than reassurances that Everything's All Right Really.

Mexican sweet corn cake sounds interesting! I'd definitely try that.

Here's hoping the dog is good!

Oh dear, I am sorry about the baking and the animal instincts. Hope you find a way to harvest and use many of the figs.

oh no Carrie :(

A cup of melted butter would put me off, but the 2nd, surely. I tend to eat my disasters unless truly inedible, but you did the right thing. Back into the earth.

I baked some cookies with Irish butter, which sounds like a great idea, but the higher fat content/lower water made them come out kind of greasy? Am going back to ordinary butter for baking unless I think it would improve whatever it is.

Fig jam?

I can't imagine you as a Stormcrow figure, but I can imagine you carrying a very big sword :)
