elainegrey: Inspired by Grypping/gripping beast styles from Nordic cultures (Default)

Good morning world.

Yesterday morning i dived into playing with genealogy for the first time in ages. The detail and the data just soothe my mind like little else. I discovered ways to make the data entry even more consistent with the relational database structure, which delights me.

I managed to shut the computer in time for a late lunch and to begin watching Werner Hertzog's documentary "Grizzly Man," about Timothy Treadwell, a man who found his escape from his inner demons by spending summers with grizzly bears in Alaska, and who died in a bear attack in the after 13 or so summers. I think i would have been better watching something more upbeat, but Hertzog made an excellent choice for taking Treadwell's footage and constructing the narrative.

After about an hour, we took a break from "Grizzly Man," and i played my game of rolling a 20-D and picking tasks for 15 min sprints. I hit filing for our Flex plan on the third sprint (or pomodoro), and i just did that until it was done. On one hand, i felt frustrated that other things didn't get done (which is why i like the sprints that have incremental progress), on the other, filing for a refund for Christine's surgeon's fees will be a good thing for cash flow. Also, there was something similar to the mental relief i got from doing genealogy in sorting and organizing the receipts. I managed not to be dis/stressed at some missing receipts and bills, which helped.

In the evening we finished "Grizzly Man" and watched Michael Woods present about the foundations of civilization in China. It was interesting to compare the focus on harmony in Chinese culture to the concept of harmony with "Grizzly Man" and Herzog's statement he believes we are all about violence, chaos, and murder. A Daoist, Buddhist, and Confuciust gloss on "Grizzly Man" and what it reveals about Western culture would be fascinating.

I did ask Christine to take photos of my hair from the sides & back so the "wave" can be appreciated.

I don't know if i was clear: i too think the hair cut is great fun (as well as satisfying the need to support the medication process). It was the stylist who about died trying to do something to that swirl in the back of my head.

The prescriptions did make it to the pharmacy, but need to be ordered. I can expect them Monday evening now. I had found another over-the-counter steroid lotion so i'm using that.

Trusting the cloud: I think the thing i am most dependent on Google for at the moment is search and calendaring. And mapping. I hate that synch of my calendar with my phone depends either on playing with mac's lousy cloud solution or Google's. I wonder if there's an Amazon solution. Amazon, where I am the customer, not the advertiser. Yahoo's calendar probably would meet many of my needs.
