One of the FWD posts talked about "crutch" as a negative word, such as when people denigrate themselves for using X coping mechanism "as a crutch." Reframed as "assistive device," crutches, wheelchairs, walkers, etc., truly take on a new meaning: a more positive one, connoting all the things they ALLOW a person to do that they might not ordinarily do. So, perhaps you are using a coping mechanism(s), but is that so bad if it's allowing you to live more fully than previously?
