It was a long time ago and my memory of the events is fuzzy, but I think I went to stay with my mom after her initial lung surgery, and the recovery was not terrible. The thing that I remember was that she wasn’t taking her pain meds enough because she was afraid of getting addicted or something, and it took the surgeon telling her that she was interfering in her recovery by not controlling the pain as directed for her to comply. It may be more challenging if your mom is less able to be up and about and may need a longer hospital stay, but my hope is that it will buy her a few more years without symptoms. I know it’s complicated by her other lung and cognitive diagnoses.
This is a hard thing to deal with. I hope you can take all the time you need. I am here for whatever listening or talking or distracting might be useful.
