Dear Dr. :
I thought i'd share what has transpired since our visit two weeks ago. I did use the Apthasol for canker sores but didn't notice any distinct improvement over the first few days. I'm taking the B complex vitamin (along with vitamin D and a fish+borage oil supplement). Meanwhile, the skin condition on my left hand ring finger became much worse. I visited a dermatologist on Friday 3 Sept, and she diagnosed it as a particular eczema with an infection. She prescribed a stronger steroid and antibiotic for my ring finger, and when I mentioned the canker sores she also prescribed a compounded mouth wash.
I spent the week eating as bland a diet and as soft a diet as I could.
My ring finger has cleared up: the pain around the infected area took about a week. My mouth, between the Apthasol and mouthwash and simple diet seemed better, but since eating somewhat more solid foods, I've another large ulcer in one cheek and a new one on the tip of my tongue. I can't help but think abrasion is part of the canker trigger.
This week i'm traveling on business and hope that i'll be less stressed after this trip.
I can't help but think how well I felt on those high doses of vitamin D last winter. I know i'm out of the deficiency range, but wonder if I have a greater need.
I suppose I can only ask that you look into persistent canker sore treatments before I see you for my annual physical.
I'll be making the appointments we discussed. I'm sending the lab work my employer is offering as part of the wellness program via fax, so we can decide if I should have their lab work done or if you should order more complete tests.
Thank you for your help.
