Yesterday we drove up to Berkeley for a un-party for a colleague, overcoming the resistance both Christine & i had to socializing. Some of my motivations: the extremely long average tenure at my workplace (i'm likely to be spending much of my time over the next decade with this guy, good to know context), the chance to see his family at a happy time, knowing his wife is in a long terminal "battle" with cancer. (I'm not sure she uses "battle" metaphors in her holistic approach other health.)

Christine had a emotional morning: i was talking about a elderly Quaker woman who died and had researched Nov/Dec travel plans to NC. I think both these put her back in her past several weeks in NC. There's still much to grieve, i suspect.

Today there's much driving to do again: Christine has an event in the Newark campus of Ohlone College: i'll drop her off on the way to San Mateo. Then i have an afternoon appointment in Palo Alto, afterwhich i'll collect her in Newark. *OR* there might be a vet visit for Edward and the abscess he's developed on his forehead. I'm not sure when that gets resolved: Christine has this 9-5 training through Wednesday. I'm thankful though: car issues like this only occur a few times a year. While i wish we had two cars today, i know that we do well sharing most of the time.

Oh, one sad whine before i go: i've been buying more yarn for my living room hassock cosy project on eBay. It's more time efficient than checking whether the local craft stores have the colors i need. (Dye lots won't matter with this project.)

There were three skeins of "chocolate" on eBay. I'd calculated my "this is the most i should pay" price and bid that, so i could walk away. However there was another three skeins in another auction (same seller). Did bidders go to that one after? No, i managed to get bid up to my maximum of $9 while the other set of three went for less than $3. And, the seller has listed another set of three skeins of "chocolate."

I know i didn't pay more than i was willing to pay and thought was a good deal for me, yet somehow i feel i paid too much. Argh.
