Over halfway through the trip, and this morning doesn't start so early. Huzzah. Indeed, i don't have any particular meetings lined up here today, so i will either present myself for casual hellos in the cafeteria or find somewhere to hide and do email triage. The first two days were quite productive. Is it going well? There is too much work to do next year, and too many things fall below the staffing allocation line. But we can prove it now.

*Skype chat with my parents*

I've been playing with Whrrl, one of a class of "locative services" on this trip. One "checks in" to places, and can provide reviews, tips on what to do, etc. It's marginally interesting as the way to cross post the no-doubt generally boring updates on facebook & twitter: look at me, i'm on a plane. The potential use to find quirky and interesting nooks to a space isn't there. Instead, a long list of weirdly marketing oriented suggestions of things to do at the local supermarket:

@ Kroger (299 W Bridge St Dublin, OH 43017-1143)
I read a newspaper story that the Earth is getting more dusty all the time. Really. Entropy. So my tip is to stock up on cleaning products.

I've not wanted to bother checking into the restaurants i've gone to, mainly because i find i'm having to do data entry. (Airports are already in the database, as was my hotel.)

Layar is a different location based service that's in the class called "augmented reality." It's sort of like having access to Google Earth layers as if you were the little orange peg person on Google Earth. In the Android application, i can select a layer, say the Panoramio layer of photographs of a place. The camera on my phone turns on so i see on the phone what ever i am pointing my phone at with an overlay of any Panoramio photos taken within a mile or so.

There don't seem to be any photos in Dublin [Ohio].
