Yesterday was a pleasant day of rest, although i did have a sense of malaise that hung about. (Symptoms familiar, cause clear: a fairly common to me inflammation is near its peak of discomfort.)
Midday, we went to REI to get the water filter for camping and pants for our kayaking lesson the following weekend: we spent far more money than i really expected. The water filter itself was three tanks of gas (but that goes to earthquake preparedness along with a nice quality handcrank/solar powered radio/flashlight with a USB port for charging phones). I think i got appropriate gear for the kayaking with out getting gear that was too specialized: i will wear it camping next weekend.
I haven't had a raincoat in ages, but there were some on a clearance rack. Even at clearance prices we both spent a roughly two tanks of gas on the coats.

I'd been imagining a tank of gas is a reasonable cost unit. My sense of the value of a dollar was developed in the '80s and '90s. Poking around http://www.1980sflashback.com/1980/Economy.asp to http://www.1990sflashback.com/1999/Economy.asp , there wasn't much fluctuation in the cost of gas. $25, for example, was two tanks of gas.
I note, however, the CPI doubled over those two decades. Taking a midvalue between 1999 and 1980 of 124 & last year's 224, my averaged $25 sense goes to a current $45 (two tanks of gas to one). That's not quite doubling, while gas prices have have gone from $12 for a tank to approaching four times that.
Perhaps my tanks of gas measure isn't as useful as i hoped.

Must dash: have procrastinated to the last minute on a Meeting report.
