Are these trips always so crowded, so draining? I am not meeting folks for breakfast, which must mean i have had more morning time. Dinners have been engaging: is that it? Dinner with my Old Boss was less of a "deal" than dinner with the Dewey Editor in Chief or a group of my Ohio colleagues? Dinner with [personal profile] laughingrat on Monday was not the work-social performances the others were.

New Director gets poor marks for his engagement with me this trip, but whatever. A colleague said, "Oh, we've all had 'that boss'!" I wailed, "I haven't," but it was the perfect thing to say. It's now my turn. I can shift the frame from my sense of injustice (that they laid off my good boss) to a sense of the random opportunities of life.

Whatever it has been this trip: i'm exhausted.
