Internet read, personal email triaged, weather in the Sierras when we were there + sunrise-sunset times examined.

It has rained here, a lovely morning to stay in bed and catch up on the internet. I just swallowed my last gulp of tea and Christine has gotten up and dressed, so i shall not journal long.

The trip was wonderful: Tuolumne Meadows made my heart sing, and i sobbed with the ache of joy. There was a coot in the Tuolumne river: where are you now, oh, coot, with eight inches of snow predicted up there today?

We did get a last gasp of mild weather. Camping was pleasant. We used the absurdly luxurious camping air mattress, which should be reinflated if the temperature drops ten degrees, it seems. We had alos bought a mylar emergency blanket: that trapped a great deal of heat. The 40° overnight was comfortable.

The day length worked out OK. I have often wondered about going camping in the fall and how the shorter day would work out, but this turned out just fine. The first night, i was going to try and see Orionid meteors and Christine had her mandolin out. Is it too late to play, she asked? I looked at the time: it's 7 pm, i replied. She was startled at the darkness. (We'd gone east in the timezone: i'm not sure she took that into account.) This opens a winter camping trip to Death Valley, in my mind.

* My camera lenses are DIRTY. Oh, the spot removal i am doing.
* I need a hood or to really think twice when shooting into the sun. JJAbrams lens flares and the high sierra just don't work together.

I hope i'm not overdoing the singular color saturation tool. I've just figured this out, and have been tweaking autumn colors -- although i should have first adjusted the white balance to get the reflections from the blue sky removed.

I am being as ruthless as i can in purging down the photos of the trip. 220 originally, now down to 139. I think i'm done purging the Yosemite & Sierra photos: we stopped at Chinese Camp & Knight's Ferry on the way home and those probably need a good purge, still.

Well, the day is passing. I suppose i should tag & post some of these photos!
