Yesterday's REI kayaking lesson was wonderful. It was a little warm, but i don't see a way one can add layers once one is out on the water. Better warm than chilled? I felt delight with the way the touring kayak moved through the water and after the paddling lessons i was confident with my maneuvering of the craft. Of course, we were in a wonderfully sheltered and still harbor: no weather or waves to challenge us. I didn't notice a current either.
Worst part was getting out of the boat on to the dock. I will invest in shoes for muck before struggling to use my upper body "strength" to get my lower body up. Flash back to sophomore year high school PE failures. That and carrying the kayaks -- not light -- was no fun.
We have a groupon to kayak an hour in Half Moon Bay: we'll need to get that on our calendar.

The Giants game a fun evening diversion. We went to the grocery story at 5 as the game started. I was hoping for that ghost town quality that happens during the SuperBowl but no such luck. We were listening in the car and arriving home just as the Tigers got their first runs in. We had some more chores to take care of before dinner was ready, and we retired to the living room to listen to the remainder of the game. I'll admit i paid more attention to my searches for waterproof bags for my SLR than the game proper.
This morning i was thinking how i feel like i don't have the right "listening memory" for symphonies: i think my listening experience is moment by moment, without reference to themes i may have heard earlier. I imagine other listeners, like Christine, have a much more deep experience where the references to earlier sounds and the current sounds help create an expectation for later sounds. (I certainly experience that basic chord resolution expectation which leads me to believe there are similar but more sophisticated elements i don't perceive.)
I think her practice listening to music helps her listen to the game announcements as more of a whole. I listen with an ear just for the box score, really, with much of the color and even some of the play by play being dropped as filler.
And as always, i suspect with discipline and practice i could learn to listen more carefully, but .. i think i'd prefer searching for camera cases.
