Tunisian hooks don't *have* to be different, but it is easier to have them be different. First, it's a bit like knitting in that you can only go as wide as the length you have to carry stitches. Then, there's the nice feature of having something to stop the stitches from falling off the tail end. So i have a tunisian hook somewhere that's longer than average for a hook and has a metal stopper on the tail end. I'm guessing you can easily find something like that at a craft store.
The 'spensive set has interchangeable and connectable cords so that i can do a very wide strip. I'm not sure it's much better than the knooking sets: the yarn seems to snag on the metal connectors just like it was snagging on the yarn threaded through the hole. The stopper is very nice though!
