I found a dissertation that described how growing marigolds & legumes together produced a better outcome for both. So i'm going to just figure out happy locations for marigolds around everything.
As i put together my big-garden list, i realize how new world everything is: corn, squash, beans, potatoes, marigolds, peanuts -- all are from the Americas. (Apparently peanuts went from the area now Argentina to west Africa before coming to North America.)
