You know, so many people in the US have been sold a sense that anything like transformational combination or "emergent properties" is complete tosh are perfectly familiar with and blasé about things like baking, or cement, or fermentation. I find this quite frustrating. AndI think it's evidence of the power of unnamed framing: the only way I know of to work on crumbling it is by naming the framing and giving examples.
