Also good luck to Luigi. FWIW, my cat Fredrika (rip) had the iodine radiation thing for her thyroid problems. It was enormously stressful for her, and me, and cost a fortune, and it turned out that her thyroid issues had been mitigating her kidney issues which roared into the foreground once the thyroid issues were solved.
Stress: Fredrika developed a UTI from being locked away in a cage for a week. I had to be careful at first how much I cuddled my radioactive cat, and I was not allowed to discard her litter for 3 months because it took that long for the urine in it to no longer be radioactive. So I had doubled-bags of dirty cat litter in a closet for 3 months. Disgusting. Apparently NYC trash trucks have radiataion detectors in them so this was the reason; perhaps it would be different for you.
