Just in case anyone was wondering, the epicenter of the Humbolt earthquake was 27 miles west of Ferndale. Google Maps tells me that if i got on 101 and started northbound, i'd be there in 5 hours 36 minutes, 6 hours 30 mins in traffic. I found out about it through fb/twitter.

We did have a 4.1 on Thursday that Christine felt and opened a cabinet door on the antique sideboard. On the other hand, walking across the floor opens that door. I felt the 3.7 the next morning, though. Both of these were located on the Calaveras fault, which is the fault for the 5.6 quake in 2007.

I feel just fine right now, Greycie Loo sprawled across my lap, reading away the morning. But last night i was fairly certain i should not attend Meeting for Worship (save my energy for Meeting for Business). My boss is sick and i can't help but suspect i gave off germs. I keep saying the cold is over and it's just asthma causing the coughing now. But by afternoon i have a productive cough.

Time to write the doctor, time to continue resting, time to not expose everyone in meeting. On the other hand, i missed December's Meeting for Business (also not well then), and i would like to attend. Some hours before i have to make that decision. I can't tell if i'm mollycoddling myself or being responsible. Considering the news of my mother's second round of antibiotics to treat her pneumonia,

Regarding Meeting for Worship, queries and thinking and figuring out. )
This musing seems like many fragmentary responses to my current relationship to Meeting for Worship and to ministry. There is a link between ministry and worship for Friends and i suspect i'll continue to examine the link and the issues for some time.

That previous post took a long time -- partly because i kept letting myself get distracted by morning things. Christine was watching Art:21 (http://www.pbs.org/art21/series/seasonone/consumption.html) over breakfast and it introduced me to two artists who were particularly fascinating.

Matthew Barney (http://www.pbs.org/art21/artists/barney/index.html) and his Cremaster Cycle of five films http://www.cremaster.net/

This just looks fascinating, no clear way to see the cycle of five intense films.

andrea zittel (http://www.pbs.org/art21/artists/zittel/index.html) and her a-z projects http://www.zittel.org/

her experiments in leaving environments and clothing fascinated me. Regrettably, her website only mentions the uniform experiment (wearing a crocheted dress of her own design for a season) and her A-Z East site. Delightfully, she's down in the Mohave near Joshua Tree now. A tempting dream.

The last artist didn't connect with me, but the concepts of phytoextraction/phytomining and hyperaccumulator plants was interesting just to know the jargon.

I keep bidding on various offerings of Lego Bionicle Malum Glatorian 8979 . It's a red bionicle, which is some sort of transformer-like, robot-like, battling thing. I want a red one at least as complex as the blue one we got for Yule (which is now morphed with the lego Christmas Tree into some sort of Yule robot monster).

I made a catfish stew for dinner, based on a Planet Organics recipe and Christine's tomato soup from last night. For lunch i roasted turnips, the turnip stems (most of the greens had been chopped off but i could not waste the stems), celery and onion. I was a little too free with the salt and olive oil, so it was very good. Too good. I've fresh kale to eat later this week.

Meanwhile, i'm rather grumpy to have "wasted" a weekend.

Curses.
