From JWZ & DNA lounge: ... Six Apart's farewell party (Six Apart is the company that used to own Livejournal before selling it to the Russians. They were recently acquired by someone else, and now are, from what I can gather, an online ad network. Their current and former employees threw a farewell party here.)

I was brave at She's Geeky and put myself out there as looking and curious. I also participated in a management & leadership session where folks were claiming "visionary leadership" is too hard to do if you're also managing.
From where i stand, i think that's a bit of a cop-out. Yes, management of people or projects or systems is hard. But if you are off waving your hand saying we should head to "this place," and you really don't understand your current position and momentum and resources for change, you may lead the change to "this place," but you may completely miss the opportunity you expected to be there.
I want leaders who employ folks to scout for opportunity (which i admit is different from management, but also different from leadership) and then synthesize the current trajectory with the possible opportunities to find an optimal route.
Also, apparently i should be looking for an *executive* coach not a *career* coach.
