sfl wjpetjnw j maarg slarrmm morrrrnib groodd morning maybe.

I'm trying not to go down too much of a "Where did the weekend go?" mental whirlpool, nor too much of a "Why am i exhausted?"

Emotionally it was up and down, with the deepest low coming after i talked to my parents yesterday. It seems my brother's wife may have experienced "Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes." I'm not sure when she was expecting: she learned she was pregnant in late April. Apparently my brother's family are here in California. I can't imagine a cross Pacific flight being ... safe? But i suppose the risk to get to American health care and out of China was the best one? From my father's account of my brother's call, they are going to fight to keep from a miscarriage, fight to keep their child. So far the communication is only going from my brother to my father: my brother's issues with my parents are adding a layer of complication.

I hope i hear from my brother later today, directly.

Meanwhile: lots of live music over the weekend. Verdi's Requiem was on Saturday night, and a bit much. Then last night, modern chamber music:

A concert of Early Music (mostly from the early 20th century) to benefit the work of the Friends Committee on Legislation of California, a lobbying group advocating for Quaker values in Sacramento (see www.fclca.org). All selections were either written specifically for violin and harpsichord, or work very well on the instruments of the 18th century. Wrapping things up will be a big sonata by Francesco Maria Veracini from 1744 with baroque bassoonist Yueh Chou.

Music by Milhaud, Stravinsky, Schönberg, Schnittke, McKean, Hindemith, Hendricks, & Veracini

Sonata from Lou Harrison were well interspersed: http://www.archive.org/details/OM8HarrisonSonataforHarpsichord

The modern chamber music worked for me much better than the operatic Verdi.

I tweaked some of the snap shots i took on the camping trip. I have two decent photos of a white iris: i'd seen them beside the road as well as at the Redwood Trail nature walk trailhead. This morning i'm surprised how hard it is to get an identification.
