I'm very glad i took yesterday off. I think i do need decompression time from the intensity of being with family and the intensity of being with Friends. The day did not go as i would have wished, but it was good to have the space to have a headache and recover from it.
Today's weather forecast is a little different from usual
Today
Showers. Highs in the upper 40s. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph.
Tonight
Breezy. Showers and snow showers likely in the evening...then a chance of snow showers and showers after midnight. No snow accumulation expected. Lows in the 30s. Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight.
Saturday
Mostly cloudy. A chance of morning snow showers and showers. Highs in the 40s. North winds 5 to 15 mph.
It's rather special to see the little snowflake icons. I am very happy to be working at home today with my big bright lamp and no need to be on the highway. The blowing rain toppled the potted sequoia on our deck, so i went out and moved some things to shelter and to ground. I shall need to pull some plants to shelter tonight, i suppose, bringing the lemon into the area between the sliding glass windows and dropped blind, creating a minimalist heat pocket.
Edward is restless, walking across my keyboard.
I went to play with my timeline mind map because of an interesting NSF article (). My timeline is split up into the geologic eons, eras, and epochs. I just discovered that the three-age system of archaeology doesn't match divisions. I do understand that since different human populations developed different technologies, the "end of the stone age" depends on where on the globe one is considering. But still. It's meant having to figure out how to mesh the time line points on the geologic divisions.
The timeline i created as i was having a hard time correlating events across topics. Having geologic topics like volcanic eruptions, orogenys, and the drift of continents, tracking with biosphere topics like extinction cycles and population bottlenecks, and then getting into the tiny divisions of the Cenozoic Era, 1.5% of the history of the earth, from 65 million years ago and the first large mammals to the current time.

I feel a nagging sense that i am unprepared for something. As i wrote about a few weeks ago, there is the wish, desire that i can go into the day with a comprehension of what i can expect, so i can project an image of organization, command, calm. This morning i remind myself that being centered isn't about pulling the universe into order around me, that being grounded isn't about neatly planting myself in the rows of today's business. Being centered means acknowledging the chaotic swirls of energy and being aware of my orientation in the surges and ebbs; being grounded means being planted in the now and trusting that the past and future will come in their order.
