I'm looking at a US flag flying over the near by shopping center. For a moment, i was transported to a frame of seeing where the flag wasn't a symbol, but was a brightly billowing visual attraction. For a moment i could imagine the visual world pre-television and movies, pre-color newspapers and magazines, and the impact of the dynamic flutter of a flag struck me.
