Saw link for Men In Black 3 trailer. My reaction: "There was a Men in Black 2??"

This morning's journalling was written as a note to a group of Friends:

I'm just back after a nine day work+family trip east. The work part was work-stressed, but i had bought a travel SAD light and it may have helped with the grey Ohio days. I was expecting more grey in North Carolina, but the weather was wonderful. On a walk with my mother and my sister and her two young ones, my mother tripped and fell, landing at the bottom of the hill on her face. She spent the rest of the day and evening in the emergency room with my sister while i and the kids entertained ourselves with holiday cheer and my dad and my sister's husband fielded phone calls and fixed dinner.

Miraculously, nothing was broken, and she seems to have come through without a concussion. My mother's face went through remarkable variations in swelling and color changing though while i was there. I am delighted her bones are so strong, and i am not sure what to do with the icy fear that cut through my heart when we turned to see her rolling in pain on the ground before we knew why she fell.

The next morning my father came in from feeding our thirty five year old Morgan horse to tell my sister and i to go check as the horse was unresponsive. I was able to get my companion from grade school and high school moving and then my Dad and sister walked the horse in circles. I played with the kids, and we waited for the Saturday morning emergency vet visit. The kids and i built a lichen and moss garden with all the different samples we could find on a walk while the horse had several gallons of warm water and a gallon of mineral oil tubed down into his stomach.

During one of the times my mom was up, we went through some of her materials from her Swedish grandparents and from the maternal Swedish family who remained in Sweden. My great grandfather recorded deaths and births in pencil on the black end papers of his bible: yay for scanners and color adjustments. There's a word after the place name for each event that i think is probably the doctor's name. The most amusing thing is that for three births in a row, a first name is recorded and scratched out, replaced by the first name i recognize for my great aunts. I speculate it took my great-grandfather three births before he learned to wait to consult on a first name for the newborn.

My five year old nephew has recently been diagnosed with pediatric idiopathic arthritis, which flared after a case of hives after an antibiotic for a previous cold. He certainly was not acting like he was in discomfort, though, and had plenty of energy with which to challenge my attentions. As my visit went on, he began coughing up a storm, and i found myself coughing before i left. I can't tell if my congestion is because i'm taking claritin instead of my usual allegra. Fortunately i found back pain analgesics before my flight home, as i felt my lower back give into a twinge when i picked up my suitcase to leave the guest room.

I return home delighted to see Christine, and we plan a short get-away to Morro Bay to celebrate our twentieth anniversary on the 21st of December.

I haven't had much silence or cats since i left, and no properly made tea. I did enjoy worship with C--- H--- Monthly Meeting, where i was filled with joy thinking of how we Quakers live Advent and Pentecost together throughout the year.

While my memories are mostly of joy and i am not in too much discomfort, i feel like i have been through an ordeal. I'll take today as a sick day, and see the chiropractor.
