Local folks may be interested in knowing about Fibre Arts Design Studio, off Charleston across from the Orchard Supply & Hardware. I hadn't realized that was Palo Alto, and had thought it was Mountain View. I stopped in out of curiosity a week or so ago to find a wonderful gallery space and a fascinating exhibit of recycled designs and another small gallery room with prints and paintings. It could have been in downtown San Francisco. (And it was not the yarn shop that "Fibre" brought to mind.)

Anyhow, if you need a shopping outing they have a tent sale June 28-July 1. The prices were boutique prices when i stepped in, but it was interesting to handle a purse made of tyvek -- i've been wondering about using tyvek as a lining in crocheted purses or painting the tyvek with acrylics as a recycling method.

I love this explanation of why a purchase of mine was declined: "It looks like [Elaine]'s purchase was unnecessarily declined. She wasn't charged, and should be able to purchase without problem if she tries again."

"Unnecessarily declined"

It looks like the application unnecessarily refused to save your post, please try again.
It looks like you unnecessarily received extra charges on your bill, here's a new one.

What a useful turn of phrase.

So, i can't tell if i've psyched myself out for this week or if i really am burnt out at the end of the day. I fear i'm psyching myself out.

Botany of Desire does get a bit tiresome. Monday's drive home felt like i was being whacked over the head repeatedly with a clue-by-four. I had already discerned that Johnny Appleseed was a Dionysus figure -- planting trees for hard cider, not eating fruit -- before the drive began, so to listen to the author develop the thesis, anecdote on anecdote, contrasting it with some other guy's super-Saint view of Johnny Appleseed felt unnecessarily heavy handed.

I realize just how much i skim when i read, as repetitions of facts grated me. It reminded me of my reaction to listening to the other non-fiction book, in fact.

Yesterday, though, we were back to the apple itself and the genetic museum of variations in New York State. I want to grow wild apples from Kazakhstan now.

Tulips, next.

Johnny Appleseed visited my Nana's family farm, and that farm is mentioned by name in one of the books about him.
