
Candy corn turned to leaves

Blugh. Authentic cheap waxy candy taste.
I should have reviewed candy making basics before making these, although throwing out the vast majority of the candy was probably for the best for everyone. I fiddled around getting the cold water to test and then mistook hardball for soft ball stage (because it still deforms, you know).
The substitution of vegan spread for butter and rice flour for powdered milk no doubt contributes to the "waxy" experience. I'm glad i didn't waste the coconut flour (expensive!) on this.
There's something about the maple flavoring that is makes me less interested in eating them, too.
All and all, only a decorative win. (Don't they look cute?)
But the experience might have turned me off candy for a while, so that's an upside.
