Entertaining me, this flash fiction -- http://www.365tomorrows.com/12/06/the-steel-tree/ -- is about a cell tower tree on 680 that i complain about. At least, i suspect that much.

Watching _The Road_ on Friday colored my experience of picking through the roasted pumpkin seeds to find ones that had popped and would be good to add to a seed bread. The seed hulls taste far better than crickets, i'm sure.

However, i would love to figure out some way to ensure more seeds pop, so they can be hulled more easily. I took the easily hulled seeds and set those aside for baking, and still have a cup of hulled seeds that i guess i'll just nibble out of hand (unsalted).

I think i'm mentally recovered from the trip: Thursday and Friday were a daze except for multiple trips to grocery stores and reading up on bread baking. Yesterday i spent much of the day in the kitchen: bread, crackers, roasted pumpkin seeds and a roasted pumpkin. Christine made a pumpkin
curry over jasmine rice for dinner, and i'm thinking of making a pumpkin-black bean veatloaf for the week, but i'm not quite sure how to calculate the pumpkin in the generator. Is it a carb with moisture?

I do think mushing up the pumpkin helps me like it more. That still doesn't work for yams.

Part of the way i know i'm mentally recovered is that i'm beginning to feel the overwhelm of work and Meeting responsibilities. I did set the table out with Yuletide red before we left; the sideboard is still autumnal. I don't know that i'm ready to let go of autumnal, although the storm coming through may blow all the golden leaves off the ginkos and the crimson off the sweet gums, and it may look like winter by the end of the week.

I realize the winter decorations -- plastic icicles -- were never put up, and i could just redecorate the bare branches with those, and have a wintry decor that can stand through March.

Maybe i need to get advent candles out. Argh -- i want holiday/seasonal decor but feel overwhelmed.

Anyhow. I am waking up easily in the early hours but not managing to stay awake long. Residue of eastern time zone there. We've done some pleasant reading of _Wind in the Willows_ before sleep.

Must get my thoughts organized.
