Letssee. I still don't think i put in a full work day yesterday. My dad skyped me again, so i had a lovely chat with him, my brother, and my mom. Ah, the joys of discovering a new technology. I realize he and i should practice whether he can figure out where a text response to a skype call would show up, so when they skype me while i'm in the middle of a meeting, i'm not interrupted over and over.

Apparently nephew D is utterly fascinated with pirates and is now convinced my Dad is a real pirate. I see a reinforcing feedback loop forming.

Car repair far surpassed the vet bill. C'est la vie. The car is back in my possession and can be steered, which is useful. I wonder if i had abused Helen Hybrid's tight turning radius.

I made royal icing last night, discovering i had meringue powder from Fante's in Philadelphia. A pang of missing south Philly -- the market, the bakeries, the cheese shops, the fifty gallon drums of smoldering trash, the creative parking, the grey skies, the odd trinket shops with Christmas ornaments unsold from fifty years ago (to be purchased on a steamy August morning). It wasn't elegant or chichi or as "good" as California's local organic farmer's markets. This was trucked in flats of this or that, probably what hadn't been bought by the big grocers or restaurants, but cheap and in bulk: you had to buy five pounds of this or that. But it really was inexpensive so five pounds was not an investment and making pies and freezing things was perfectly reasonable. I was spoiled by those prices: i still suffer from fresh vegetable price sticker shock here in California. I couldn't get over it when i moved here, almost ten years ago now.

But honestly, my California decade has been good for me: i'll should celebrate my arrival some time in April, Christine's arrival was early June, i think.

Anything else of note from yesterday? I think we made it to midnight awake, i finished a suduko just before the clock ticked over. This morning our tea is in our china, because we should use these things.

We did have a nice afternoon meeting with L-J at Peets, catching up on the past two weeks and "planning" for the next month.

I hope to do some correspondence today. I hope to continue to mend, although i don't feel that much better today. I need to hit that list of things to do i made yesterday. We'll probably see a movie -- Up in the air or Sherlock Holmes -- not sure which.
