Written Wednesday night:
Celebration: this (short) week has been good. I have gotten things done at work, i walked and had the late afternoon does of high L-Theanine tea (which helps retain some modicum of exec function in the evening).
I have been snacking and reading the internet for the past hour-ish so i think i might as well call the exec function gone, give up, and read a novel.

Thursday and Friday i did not spend much computer time, except that i (re)read three novels (the Balanced Sword Phoenix trilogy by Ryk E. Spoor. As i've grown to know the Zarathan/Zahralandar Multiverse from later novels, i note how differently Spoor's world grew: the first novels aren't a few characters whose narrative then expands into a more complicated universe. Instead the first novels in this multiverse open many paths, and so rereading now a decade later more or less, much more of the detail shouts out at me.
Thursday morning i started in the kitchen, cleaning it up and then cranberry sauce (too gelled this year), prebaking the crust for a pie (having left it shaped in the freezer over night), making the pumpkin pie burfi (a recipe i have made up, and people liked it: https://www.zotero.org/groups/4700937/research_from_judielaine/collections/96TBVE93/items/H6ANN429/collection), and then made the NY Times sheet pan pumpkin pancakes (https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1024587-sheet-pan-pumpkin-pancakes). They taste a little of the baking ... powder? soda? Not sure, but other than that, lovely.
I spent some time with my sister's family, came home, and then returned to her family for desert. Christine had migraines. The correlation with holidays does make me think whatever distress holidays gave in the past continue to stress her.
Friday i left around 6:15 am to go to my Dad's and then we were on the road to Onslow Beach. It took about three hours, and then we walked on the beach, the sky cloudy with bands of light, pelicans surfing the breakers. I felt close to mom Mom, and then Dad talked about visiting the beach with Mom. We had little bottles of wine to toast Mom's memory. We certainly hadn't planned to remember Mom on the trip, but that's what happened.
We had lunch at Riverview Cafe in Sneads Ferry, NC. I had the small bucket of steamed oysters which were divine. Nice large succulent oysters. There were also hush puppies.
We took a long back road route home, looking and talking. I spent some time thinking about some of the details for the shed i've got to build sooner or later. I was home in time to do a little raking.
The next day we got our tree from the little mill town's cultural association. Dad was going to come over and cut one of our cedars down for his sweetie but called a little late to tell me she'd waved him off. I thought i was OK, hut as i write now, i think i was a little put out. Later i got our router set up which took longer than i wanted it to.
Sunday i tried to click into good habits -- at least made progress on laundry - -and we strung lights on the tree. And then turned them on.
Ooops.
We were a little deflated to find only a few sections of one strand working. So, back off, and a little troubleshooting to demonstrate not a trivial issue. We have had the string since 2017, so not a bad run. I ran to the store and got LEDs. Currently the tree is cycling between a few seconds of warm white, then a few seconds of multicolor.
We've had a number of hard freeze nights in a row now, and early Wednesday morning will be 17°F (-8.3°C). It's cold and dark. I'll be in Back Bay Boston next week, and it will be colder and darker. I don't think i'm doing well with the layers of politics, worrying about Christine who is worried if her gender affirming hormone therapy will continue in the new regime, the cold, the dark. I'd look forward to spring, but new regime.

I’m glad the pre-break days were work-good.
Also, oysters yum!
