What's helped me since i last answered this question (i think, didn't check dates precisely):

• i have made it a point to reach out to some people i know who are directly affected by the anti-trans executive order. I can be part of mutual aid connections by letting others know i am available.
• I found a small mission: i will badger Thom Tillis as much as i can with my opinions about US Senate votes, and as soon as Roy Cooper declares he's running for the US Senate, i will support him. Flip the US Senate.
• I assumed technology error instead of partisanship and re-sent a message about checking out whether you were one of the 700+ challenged ballots in the county to the county mailing list.The editor found the original in their spam folder, sent it to the list. There were a couple favorable responses. It's the best i can do for "letters to the editor."

Why challenged ballots: NC votes for the state supreme court. The race was very tight and the race's looser has been fighting tooth and nail, now trying to get ... 6000, i think? ... ballots thrown out due to some errors in the voting registration process. I'm fuzzy on the details: there was a bad form?

It's 60,000 votes, which is insane. I keep getting text/emails from NCDP for a pack the gallery event on Monday, but I haven't taken the time off work, and I don't have much vacation built up in the new year. I suppose I should email my senator, although all of his responses are always asinine.

I am inclined to believe the 60000 were well targeted, too, because my sister in law is someone who has never lived in the state and voted; their expat address is with my Dad. So her ballot "should" be in the list, but lo, it's not. On the other hand, she did fly to NC to vote in person to make sure it would count. I imagine she's registered as a Republican (i don't know if they've dropped their R yet), so i am suspicious there was much picking and choosing which counties to comb through and just how carefully they dredged. (Grudgingly, maybe they only challenged expats who mailed their votes in.)

Anyhow, ugh.

The most frustrating part of it all is that in many cases it seems the information is old or bad - e.g., there are instances where people have already provided the correct/updated information and voted without context since that time, but Griffin's list is pulling from an even earlier voter registration record. If the court buys his argument and throws this election, I'm not sure there's anything left of ethics in our institutions to save.
