Having these two new to me file repositories, Evernote & Yojimbo, seems to have made a slight change in my needs for my online journal. I hadn't realized how much i use DW/LJ to have a "cloud" data repository.
I would have journaled about time calculations yesterday, but chose to stick it in one of the repositories instead. Writing through my analysis i find that i can take the day after i return from my trip to NC off, plus two vacation days and one personal day and meet my "savings" goal of having a month of vacation accrued by July 1. Because it is vacation, and not PTO, and because of California law, if i were fired, laid off, or quit, i'd be due the check for that vacation time. (And just like savings, i will be able to dip into it if i need time off for a special occasion or an emergency.)

Christine says the estimator came up with $8900 worth of damage, without checking past just the question of fixing dents and so on. They're going to compare that to the cost of similar used cars today. I did that last night. Helen Wheels will be totaled, i expect. There's a similar car in the area that we could probably buy with the insurance and very little out of pocket. I really don't want to take on another loan, given the medical expenses this year. However, for twice what i think we'll get there's a 2010 Honda Insight with low milage. Apparently i'll be car shopping this weekend.
I did follow a whim to look at jeeps. I'd love a jeep, i'd love to hit the dotted line roads on which i've tortured our previous cars, without Christine being distressed. This morning i fondly recalled our first Sierra trip in Joan Jetta, and then getting Helen Wheels stuck in the mud in the central valley in a wild life refuge. We could get two jeeps, maybe, for the pay out. At least one would be in working condition, right?
However, my day to day need for four wheel drive and a high undercarriage is nonexistent. Seeing the prices, i can now imagine buying a jeep for a long road trip vacation in Nevada, and then selling it again when we got back. Opal mining. (Previous road trip fantasy involved renting the jeep.)

Yesterday's spoon estimation did not take into account the duration of the drive home. I left at 5:19 and got home after 6. Possibly an hour. I slipped into the HOV lane when it began, out of habit, and then remembered, and slipped back out.
At home Christine gave me the news about the car, and that led to the car cost comparisons and then the shopping. No laundry, no phone call, but i suppose the time spent car shopping was not the same as random web surfing: the car thing is an official household project.

Hint to reporters, just because NYC is being hit, this is not a storm hitting the eastern third of the country. OK? Thanks.
