I've not been letting myself dwell on the horrors of the spill in the Gulf of Mexico, but
jwz's repost of a wave dyed orange with oil and marbled with thick globs was a visual of the type that skewers me. Local to the Bay area is the headquarters of an International Bird Rescue group: http://www.ibrrc.org/index.html . They're one of the groups contracting with BP to rescue and clean as many birds as they can. I've been following their blog fitfully (tech and time issues) and have been happy i've supported them (fitfully) over the years.

Yesterday i blocked out the conference sessions on my calendar and have blocked out time to visit with NC folks and now must commit to myself that i will block out time for my mental health. I'm hoping i can find a quiet place in the hotel lobby Friday afternoon to decompress by myself (and get some work done without email distraction?) before returning to the family trance.
Is today a care check in? Yes i think it's supposed to be a care check in. Am i? Erm, i don't think so. I'm feeling the energy of longer days but i have difficult accepting the solstice is so close. And the end of the fiscal year. And.
August and September look like they'll have trips east, too, and Christine and i will likely make the September trip an extended vacation.
I think i will do my best to bunker down and say no (give myself a good emotional winter) in the last quarter of the year. I know i'll be back in NC in Feb 2011....
