This morning i bought a working miniature replica black powder cannon and a bunch of pirate themed legos as a birthday gift for my dad. I suspect we will play with them a bit before he does, although we're not going to mess with actually acquiring fuses and black powder. That my Dad can do. I've warned my sister though so she can acquire safety glasses.

I am taking today off, and my throat hurts. Curses. But i have slept in and lounged around with the laptop, reading David Brooks' and Gail Collins' latest joint column with Christine (thanks for the pointer, [livejournal.com profile] mopalia).

I am still fighting the inner messages that undermine me, my failure messages: oh filthy home, oh failed correspondence goals, oh failure to get team members' reviews done, oh abandoning office work at 5pm, oh Meeting responsibilities! Oh, oh, oh. Making fun of myself helps a little, but i need to sort out and manage my expectations for myself. I have grown to accept i am a glacier, that my time cycles are long.

One of my challenges is i am now able to keep many more of my "to-dos" in sight. Something to think about...

Took time to watch birds, take over a hundred photos and purge that down to five. This weekend is the Great Backyard Bird Count.
