Has anyone heard an alternative to "handicapping" when adjusting advantages for players in a contest?

I have to admit that I have not which is even odder when you consider that the term 'handicapped' used to mean disabled got dropped from English english decades ago.

Not so surprising when you consider that the handicap-in-a-game sense predates the person-with-disabilities sense.
