Mind a-swirl with financial matters. Christine is getting the house refinanced (house values up, rates crazy-low), and we will pay it off much sooner.

Once upon a time, my dad suggested that a bequest from Grandmámá would be entailed to paying off the mortgage. This created a lovely sense of ease when thinking about the future. However, despite last weekend's "Grandmámá is failing" and Dad's dash to Florida, her health is fine. Dad's cousin's health is not, and care for Grandmámá may become more expensive. So, we put that idea of a bequest aside with a bit of a wince as we took up the concern again.

And, admittedly, my sister and i have had conversations about inherited wealth and justice.

As an aside, in other Grandmámá news, my Dad discovered the reason that his mother moved out twenty plus years ago was that he and mom didn't party enough, and would be aghast if she went to a club and brought a man home. Sounds right for the Auntie Mame spirit of Grandmámá, and leads me to wonder what sort of club Grandmámá would find in the Raleigh-Chapel Hill area.

Back to our ponderings, there's a whole snarl of planning around the garage door falling apart, wanting the garage as a studio, needing a place for the flock of yard equipment, some fascination with the For F-150 Lightning electric truck and its ability to be a backup power source for the house, wishes for solar despite our shade (aka passive air conditioning)....

I think we bought a new Prius when our previous auto fell apart in the early 2000s. It was the first or second year of the car, and i was convinced it was OK to buy new in looking at the prices of used Priuses that tracked close to new. An F-150 should hold value too, albeit with the same uncertainty regarding new tech. But it's acting as a booster for the new tech that is attractive. Since the Prius was hit, we've been getting used vehicles with plans to get a nice electric vehicle when the time was right.

I'm very happy that the car's trouble was in the reasonable price range for fixing, although compared to what we just got as a bluebook estimate -- well, i understand why Christine is interested in trading it in.
