I opened the GIS program (uDIG) again. I'm not sure what drives me so obsessively: it's some curiosity and information seeking drive combined with something else. Hope, probably. I can remember working on the cartography projects but forget how time consuming they were, discount the short-cuts we were provided by instructors (who had already selected appropriate data sets, confirmed the desired task was possible with the tool).
I wanted to do some fiber dyeing this weekend but haven't pulled out the safety kit to mix up the dyes yet.
Instead, i tried to clear some space off my root drive to install Illustrator, in order to polish the cartography from uDig's pdf output. I deleted the Apple iLife music program Garageband. (It is 2 GB in dedicated files.) While i was at it, i also deleted a programming application called eclipse. It turned out that uDig, which is the GIS pr, had discovered the old installation and was including plug-ins from there. Restarting uDig after removing those required essentially wiping out all the metadata uDig had created (more than i would have expected) and starting from scratch. Meanwhile, it seems that the local road data set for the state is too large for my patience and/or uDIG.
I started today with a quick work hour at the Meeting library, then came home and chatted with my parents. My mother is claiming the birthday gift i gave her over six years ago is still a valid gift and she needs nothing for her day tomorrow. Also, this call was just fine: i need not call again this weekend. (Not believing this in the least!)
A little later in the morning Christine and i had coffee when meeting with my group of Minnow friends. I hadn't had caffeine in a couple of weeks, and i can sure feel the effect of the small cup. We ended up spending two hours together, so the morning went quickly.
I spent midday on geodata, then we took Edward to the vet to have his stitches out: the end of the abscess event. When i carried him to the car he got very agitated when he saw the car: he knew he was on the way to vet. I too remembered our last trip to the vet when he got the drains out, so i brought crochet to do during the wait. Instead, he had two stitches out and i got two stitches in.
Christine is now viewing video of the Honda CB900C Custom: we're driving up to Santa Rosa, and she's likely to buy one tomorrow. The scooter has annoyed her for the last time. She had traded her Kawasaki Vulcan for it when she was working in an office where she felt uncomfortable wearing motorcycle gear. The gas efficiency of the little scooter was nice, but it really introduced a range limitation to her travels. Worse yet, it was impossible to find shops that would service it. So, back to a motorcycle. I look at the nice betty seat and figure i'll be comfy riding, too.
