WEDNESDAY

Yesterday i found out my current retirement funds have not been under a model since ... i dunno 2010?... just one was. The smallest one. So, ha, glad i asked. Because the company holding the funds and managing the website don't have any big message that makes it clear "You're in charge" and "We got this." Admittedly, since i thought they were all under models etc, i just did not look on the theory that trying to time the market is not for average folks.

Christine has, however, been paying close attention for a couple of years and has been handling some comparatively smaller (although still big to me who pinches pennies) investments. So we sat together and then talked and... well, i have a much stronger "Let's meet and talk about something i don't know about with lots of details and some stakes attached" muscle because day job, and we tipped into her overwhelm. Also, i understand now a little about ADHD's hyperfocus, and yes, i may have been heading there.

The work day did not go as well as i would have liked, with me never turning the hyperfocus on the thing that needed it.

My sister and i had a brief conversation about ADHD and to do lists. She repeated wisdom she heard that lists are where things go to die. I LIKE my lists.

I applaud your general approach on investments, since I find assessment of firms and attempts to time sales ever so dull. I empathize with loss of track for just the same reason.

People use lists in different ways! My mother used them as some sort of self-soother, though she didn't think of them that way. She tried to train me always to begin with a list, the more detailed the better. For several decades I never, or very very seldom, used a list, but eventually I was juggling enough that I began to use lists when I needed (or thought I might need) an aide-memoire.

My mother's purse was stuffed with years of lists, lists of groceries or tasks or whatnot. I think they helped her to feel like a grown-up and as if she were in control.

I love lists, and I think we've had this conversation before LOL
I am in the same boat with my 401Ks - TSC and Petco. I REALLY need to reach out and get them combined and then invested correctly. I keep leaving the emails from Fidelity in my email as a reminder and just keep putting it off.
I have promised myself to get this done before the end of the year, I hope you're able to get things moving the way you want to also!

What do you mean by "under a model?" Have the funds just been sitting there? Does it not do annual rebalancing?
