BOTHER. I left my personal computer hooked up to the backup drives overnight to back up -- but apparently i'd knocked out the power cord hooking up the drives. This morning, not only is there the issue of the battery being flat out dead, but the system booted from the USB drive, the slowest and oldest choice possible. I had a certain amount of deja vu as a few apps announced they needed to be updated. I was pretty sure the updates had occurred. Then a sync with an offsite disk reported a version conflict on a file i was pretty sure i'd saved last night, and the dates were weeks off. That drove me to look at the mount points are realize that i'd booted from a slow old copy.

When the Singularity comes, I'm really not looking forward to the sync and backup to my clones. Sheesh.

Hi Friends,

A couple months ago, someone shared a prayer in vocal ministry, in
which they repeated a phrase several times, dropping a word each time
until it ended in silence. I would like to remember the words, as it
seemed to be a wonderful entry into silent worship.

Thank you,
....

Hi ....,

That was Ruth F-----, and she was quoting Psalm 46:10: "Be still and
know that I am God," subtracting a word off the end each time.

Peace,
....

Up early today, found the laptop power problem mentioned earlier. Did that truly keep me from switching to my work laptop promptly? Probably not.

Feeling like dealing with the personal stuff in front of me instead of the WORK THAT IS DUE, i wrote several Meeting related emails. Yay, they're done, but they weren't the CRITICAL PATH items.

I've now procrastinated to well into the east coast work day, but the laptop is charged up to some value. My tea is long finished and i'm on to a lemon grass and second-brew kemun to keep me warm.

I'm basically well. [1] The Power of Procrastination has fueled getting a few things done. I have packed business clothes for the trip, sadly realizing that some of my newer and nice slacks have no chance of fitting. I do have a nicely coordinated set of garnet and black clothes to take, but i realize i was wearing these at the time of the merger as well. I suppose i should plan some wardrobe improvements this coming year. I should try to hit the outlets in Gilroy for after Christmas sales, i think. (Shudder.) Yup there still appears to be a Liz Claiborne New York there (and a Jones New York). I guess i should watch http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/sales.asp?id=23#storepromotions when i get back.

I did get wrapping done to some extent, but i'm punting on some things. Probably the most important thing yesterday and this morning was clearing my Oversight responsibilities for my absence -- yikes! Almost dropped one last thing, a ride to the dentist for someone without driving abilities.

Can i now harness the power of "I don't wanna" and turn it towards what i must do?

Still procrastinating, this time by doing work email.

Greycie Lou has developed a charming and annoying habit of petting me on the nose. It would be more charming and less annoying if there wasn't a bit of claw involved. I am delighted that she's finally recognized that i too can give her affection, but, my!, is she demanding.

I've just bundled up in a scarf and gloveletts. Why? The sun had been pouring down on the back of my neck, warming me up. When it passed above the roofline i apparently turned into icicle woman. It's also possible that our downstairs neighbors, who are doing renovations, may have turned off their heat. Fiddlesticks.

Yay, there's an Audible.com app for Android, so i will be able to listen to my audiobooks that i've bought from Audible on my phone. Huzzah!

I have decided i want to crochet and listen on my flights across country, not read digital books on the phone. I could queue up a bunch of podcasts, but i would prefer to listen to a long book. While there are certainly books i could listen to again (Gormanghast comes to mind), i'd just talked to a friend about finding good science fiction by referring to the James Tiptree, Jr Award. ("The James Tiptree, Jr. Award is an annual literary prize for works of science fiction ("SF") or fantasy that expand or explore one's understanding of gender. It was initiated in February of 1991 by SF authors Pat Murphy and Karen Joy Fowler, subsequent to a discussion at WisCon (the world's leading feminist-oriented science fiction convention).")

I started at the most recent award winner at wikipedia (2009, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiptree_Award#Winners) and worked back. The first two books i found with Audible copies are these:

Camouflage/ Joe Haldeman
The Knife of Never Letting Go /Patrick Ness

SUSPICIOUS.

I finally did the monthly report, receiving email about how the VP wants new and different stuff in the quarterly report (the thing i did a week ago after procrastinating).

Someone linked to this "syllabus as essay" on LinkedIn:

I've skimmed the beginning and found all sorts of distractions. Best of the distractions is Hipmunk which seems ideal for finding flights because it sorts by AGONY:

Hunch.com .... and i continue answering questions at hunch.com ... provides recommendations based on a bunch of questions like "Which of these most closely describes your approach to packing? I pack light to travel easy; I over pack to be prepared for anything"

I think it did a good job with the free font recommendations.
